2012-2013 Interstate Faceoff Series: I-65 Faceoff

65FO

They say all roads lead to Nashville and this year’s Interstate Faceoff Series proves that statement true!  Vanderbilt hockey concludes the 2012-2013 season with this year’s installment of the Interstate Faceoff Series when they host the Alabama Frozen Tide in the I-65 Faceoff.

The last two installments of the Interstate Faceoff series, known better as the I-40 Faceoff, Vandy welcomed in-state rival Tennessee Ice Vols into Bridgestone Arena for the final game of the season.  In these two contests, Vandy sent the Ice Vols back to Knoxville without a win and retained the “Cullie” Trophy.  (6-2 in 2011 and 10-1 in 2012)

This year, Vandy has invited SECHC runner up, Alabama Frozen Tide to Nashville to play for the “Holy” Trophy, in what is sure to be an exciting game.

Vandy (9-12) played their last game in the SECHC Tournament on February 23, where they defeated Auburn and took home seventh place.

Alabama (17-11-1) finished second in the SECHC Tournament and qualified for the 2013 ACHA D3 National Tournament where they lost to the eventual national runner-up, Michigan-Flint in the first round.

Although this year’s regular season game was close with Bama (4-3), you will have to go back to September of 2006 for the last time that Vandy beat the Tide.

The inaugural I-65 Faceoff will be held April 12 at Bridgestone arena immediately following the NHL Western Conference matchup between the Nashville Predators and the visiting Dallas Stars.  Click here for more information on the game.
