It was a game completely dominated by the Michigan State Spartans. The consolation game of the Great Lakes Invitational featured a bout between Michigan State University and the University of Michigan. Michigan was plagued by penalties and outstanding goaltending by Michigan State goaltender Jake Hildebrand. Just 1:23 into the game, Matt Berry scored for the Spartans, forcing Michigan to play from behind the entire game. The Wolverines also took four penalties compared to one for the Spartans. The final dagger was scored by Brent Darnell at 13:52, sealing the Michigan State Victory.
