The 2014 NHL Entry is quickly approaching and while all but a select few of these top prospects will not see action in the best hockey league in the world, they will be key in adding depth for the future to every organization.
With the 11th pick in the draft, the Nashville Predators will be picking a player at least one or two years away from seeing action in the NHL. In his press conference announcing Peter Laviolette as the second head coach in the history of the Nashville Predators, General Manager David Poile stated that he knew what position they would be selecting in the draft. While jokes may fly about Nashville selecting a defenseman or a goalie, one can assume that Poile meant the Predators will select a forward.
There are a slew of forwards ranked within range, with most currently playing in the Canadian Hockey League or with the United States Under-18 team. This decreases the likelihood of a player electing to play in Europe or the Kontinental Hockey League in the future. The pressure is certainly on the scouting staff for the Predators to find the right pieces to rebuild the forward depth in the organization and, if they’re lucky, find a scoring gem.
Below is the ISS Hockey Top 30 for May. It is unlikely that Nashville trades up in the draft, so their targets would most likely fall in the 7-14 range. This month’s release outlines an unchanged pattern in the top rankings of the ISS Top 30. With one more final release to go, Sam Reinhart, Aaron Ekblad, Michael Dal Colle, Sam Bennett and William Nylander are locked into their respective top 5 rankings for May. Robby Fabbri is the biggest mover, jumping 8 spots from #16 to #8 by impressively leading the Guelph Storm to the OHL championship.
